The Farm

Originally born as a farm, in the early 19th Century, following the development of the latifundium and the constitution of the baronies, the structure was enlarged with the inclusion of the owner's holiday house, at the end of the same century. The farms were big rural firm settled, during some part of the year, by the landowners as well. The big rural construction included also the farmers' houses, the cattlesheds and the stores for the forage and the crop.

"Il Sultano", in accordance with the typical plan of the farm, includes an outside closed construction with all the openings facing the internal part of the court.
The external walls defended it from the bandits attack; a belvedere, originally exploited also for the almond drying, allowed to sight from far away the Turkish ships that berthed near Caucana coasts. A big entrance, bared by a robust main door, allowed the carriages and the other means of transport to enter the courtyard.

Elaborate systems of hydraulic engineering, still running, enabled the collection of rainwater: in a hole, called "death", the water from the fields merged and in a tank, exclusively for civilian use, the water from the roofs was conveyed.
